Description
ESR Test
The ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) Test measures how quickly red blood cells settle at the bottom of a test tube in one hour. A faster-than-normal rate may indicate inflammation in the body due to infections, autoimmune diseases, or other medical conditions.
Why This Test is Done:
-
Detect inflammation linked to infections, arthritis, or autoimmune disorders
-
Monitor the progress of inflammatory diseases
-
Help guide further diagnostic tests
How It Works:
A blood sample is placed in a tall, thin tube and the rate of sedimentation is measured. While ESR is a non-specific test, it is useful in combination with other investigations.
Sample Requirement: Blood sample
Reporting Time: Same day
No special preparation is needed.
