HBsAg (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen) Test
The HBsAg Test is a blood test used to detect the presence of Hepatitis B surface antigen, a protein found on the surface of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). A positive result indicates an active Hepatitis B infection, which may be acute or chronic.

Why This Test is Done:

• Screen for Hepatitis B infection

• Diagnose the cause of liver inflammation or abnormal liver function tests

• Identify carriers of the Hepatitis B virus

• Test pregnant women to prevent mother-to-child transmission

• Monitor patients undergoing Hepatitis B treatment

How It Works:
A blood sample is collected and tested for the HBsAg protein. If the antigen is detected, additional tests may be required to determine the stage and severity of the infection.
