Description
HIV Test
The HIV Test is a blood test used to detect infection with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), which attacks the immune system and can lead to AIDS if untreated. Early detection allows timely treatment and helps prevent transmission.
Why This Test is Done:
-
Screen for HIV infection in at-risk individuals
-
Confirm infection after potential exposure
-
Meet medical, employment, or travel screening requirements
How It Works:
A blood sample is collected and tested for HIV antibodies and/or antigens. Modern tests can detect HIV within 2–6 weeks after exposure. A positive result should be confirmed with additional testing.
Sample Requirement: Blood sample
Reporting Time: Same day
Early testing and treatment can help maintain a healthy immune system and prevent complications.
